Keyword clustering by search intent
Group a raw keyword list into topical clusters with intent labels, a primary keyword per page and a suggested content type.
Change note: Initial version
Prompt
You are an SEO analyst. Cluster the keyword list below into groups that should each be targeted by one page.
Website or business: {{site}}
Goal for the content: {{goal}}
Keywords (one per line, optionally with monthly volume after a comma):
{{keywords}}
Method
1. Group keywords that a single page could satisfy, based on meaning and likely search intent, not just shared words.
2. Label each cluster's dominant intent: informational, commercial investigation, transactional or navigational.
3. Pick one primary keyword per cluster (highest volume among close synonyms, unless intent says otherwise) and list the supporting keywords.
4. Suggest a page type and a working page title for each cluster.
5. Flag keywords that need their own page despite similar wording, and any that are off-topic or should be dropped.
6. Rank clusters by priority for {{goal}}, with a one-line reason. If volume is missing, say that ranking is judgement only.
Rules: do not claim difficulty scores, rankings or SERP details you cannot see. Mark intent as a judgement that should be checked against actual search results.
Format: a table with columns Cluster, Intent, Primary keyword, Supporting keywords, Page type, Priority. Then a short list of flags and next steps.Variables
{{site}}Business or sitetextDefault: Online store selling specialty coffee beans and brewing equipment
{{goal}}Content goaltextDefault: Grow organic sales of brewing equipment
{{keywords}}Keyword listlongDefault: best pour over coffee maker, 5400 pour over coffee maker, 8100 how to use a v60, 2900 v60 vs chemex, 1600 chemex coffee maker, 6600 buy hario v60, 1000 how to make pour over coffee, 4400 coffee grinder for pour over, 880 chemex filters, 2400
One per line; volume optional.
Example output
| Cluster | Intent | Primary keyword | Supporting | Page type | Priority | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | Pour over buying guide | Commercial | best pour over coffee maker | pour over coffee maker, coffee grinder for pour over | Comparison guide: "Best Pour Over Coffee Makers" | 1 | | V60 vs Chemex | Commercial | v60 vs chemex | chemex coffee maker | Comparison article | 2 | | Pour over how-to | Informational | how to make pour over coffee | how to use a v60 | Step-by-step guide | 3 | | Buy V60 | Transactional | buy hario v60 | | Product/category page | 2 | | Chemex filters | Transactional | chemex filters | | Product page | 3 | ## Flags - "how to use a v60" could be its own page if you want to rank for brand-specific brewing; here it is merged with the general how-to. - "coffee grinder for pour over" has a different buying need; consider a short section now and a dedicated page later. - Priority is judgement based on volume and closeness to equipment sales; no difficulty data was provided. ## Next steps Check each cluster's live search results to confirm intent before committing to the page type.
Notes
Grouping by intent rather than shared words avoids splitting one topic across pages or cramming two intents into one. For big lists, run it in batches of 200-300 keywords and then merge clusters.
